1967 Porsche 911S
This incredible 911S won the under 2.0L class and was the first GT finisher
- 9th overall - during the 1967 24 hour race at Daytona. Jack Ryan and
Bill Bencker were the drivers.
The car led its class at the following 12 hour of Sebring race when Bill
Bencker hit oil on the track and retired the car. Untouched for a couple
of years, Russ Norburn bought the car but did not bring it into Trans Am
duty. Instead, Phil reynolds worked the car into Trans Am and SCCA racing.
He and Bob Beasley raced it quite successfully into the '70's (they won
arace at VIR with this car).
The car was located (roll cage still in place) and restored in the late
80's by Scott Tyler. He introduced the car to vintage racing in 1991. Jim
Hartman took delivery of the car in 1994 and has campaigned it principally
in vintage events until the current owner, Larry Macks purchased the car
in late 2004.
The car was then transported to KTR to undergo a full restoration bringing
the car back to the look of how it raced at Daytona in 1967. The car is
currently raced at vintage events.
